Introductions - New from near where New Orleans used to be

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

The only thing new about me is this forum. The rest is pretty worn. Started riding bikes in about 1947. My first was a Hawthorne. Heavy. The next one came along about 1968. Built from a bike I fished out of the dumpster and one I found abandoned in a rental garage. It was a 3 speed and I rode it for about 9 years. Making ridable bikes from throwaways became habit forming and I don't know how many I've done now but it's a bunch. I made my first recumbent from junked cheap bicycles. About 7 of them I think. It is front wheel drive and done without welding. The prototype can be seen on the Abita Springs Bicycle Festival 2003 page. It evolved into a nice looking and riding bicycle then to a trike. I am currently working on a crank forward 20" now. Again no welding. I have ridden the prototype but I am sorry to say that I had to order special handle bars. You don't know how much that pains me. I won't be able to say it was make entirely from junked bikes. My interest in bicycles is pretty much utility,I don't do road bikes or ride for exercise. I ride to the beer store. I take it back I did do a road bike. It made a nice shop stool.
From southeast Louisiana where SUV's rule and anyone on foot or on a bicycle is fair game.

Welcome, Dick!
Your bikes sound really wonderful. I hope one of these days you can post pictures for us - people love to see bikes like the ones you make. My bike is my car, and I use it for getting to work and errands, but I sure haven't scoffed at my dress size going down from it. ;)

Hello Dick, recycling bikes is the cool thing to do! I'm not certain where you'd post them (Alt Bikes, perhaps?), but they would be nice to see.
Welcome to BF!

Thanks for the welcome and yes I have pictures. I don't quite know how to post them yet but I am looking at the various forums and I'll figure it out. Alt bikes it probably where I should start although the over 50 forum is what inspired me to sign up.
Innovating and building is ageless.
