Introductions - New soon-to-be commuters in Vancouver

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

My wife and I decided to take the plunge...got a couple of KHS Flite 220 entry-level road bikes to start commuting. We used to be car-free, while living in Japan...our modes of transport were our folding bikes and the trains. Since returning to North America, we've missed being on bikes...it feels good to leave the car at home.

These are our first road bikes. Our inaugural ride, yesterday, was a test-ride of her 65km (round trip) commute. We didn't push too hard, but it felt great, and we're surprisingly fresh today! It's raining like crazy today, so we'll wait to test-run my commute (50km round trip) another day...but I can hardly wait!

Hello hophead, Vancouver's got quite a few BF members, it's a happenin' place for cyclists. That's quite a ride for a commute, even if it is the round trip distance. How long does it take, and is it all human powered? Do you both go much the same way, or are your routes opposites?

Please post photos of both your commutes--I'd love to see those commutes in Vancouver.

Welcome to BF!

It is all human-powered, but probably won't be every day. Ideally, I think we're looking at three or four days per week. Our commutes are in different directions, so we won't be riding together, but both are almost entirely on bike lanes and MUPs, so reasonably simple. I'll try to post photos (in the Commuting forum) when the weather is better!

Three to four days a week is a good workout! I'll be looking for the photos eventually (I know yesterday was probably not a good weather day--it was raining here, with thunderstorms in the Seattle area :) .
