Saturday

Road race - neutralized for 45 minutes which cost my position and then they cut the course short by 7 miles, settled for a pack finish.

TT - TT was canceled after several people had already done it. Judges realized their timing was completely bogus after an 11 year old kid set a 27mph pace for the 7 mile tt. Two friends and I did our own little TTT after being told the TT was canceled; vented some frustration on the road.

Sunday

Crit - I was fifth wheel going into the final two laps, but I chose to abandon after a monkey locked his bars into mine going into a corner. In getting the two of us unhooked we zig-zagged across the field and he threw a foot into my rear wheel, throwing it out of true. At one point I honestly thought we were going down, but was comforted that I'd be landing on him, rather than visa-versa. After the race another guy in the pack who I'd been chatting with earlier told me the same monkey bounced into four other guys throughout the race. I did get the pleasure of seeing the monkey finish DFL, and when I mean DFL I mean he was scorched.

That is all.

Sounds like a cluster-flip of a weekend. That race is usually one of the better events of the year.

Was there a bad accident that caused an airlift in the RR?

Can't wait to find out who was working the TT. I know everyone. No excuses for that one. Aaargh...

And your handlebar locking with the monkey. You sure you just aren't using your shoulders enough and staying aware. Most of these things can be avoided.

I wasn't there for the Pro/1/2 road race, but someone told me there was a pretty bad crash at the finish and one of the riders was still in the hospital yesterday. There was also a nasty crash at the finish of the Cat 4 race, which is why the 5's sat on the side of the road for a while. The crit course was a fun time.

Sorry to hear about the race. I'd agree with YMCA, Deland is usally well run, and one of the better races in Florida.

I got home from a business trip at 1:30 AM Saturday morning, so I decided to bag the race. Bad form gone all week, to then immediately ditch the family for the weekend.

Sounds like you got some good racing experience and a bit of bad luck.:(

I won't be on the Hipp ride this week as I am in Illinois visiting relatives. There are four bikes in garage and not a single one is ridable without major work. I guess this will be a rest week.:( :( :(

I had a lot of fun on the races, so it wasn't bad (well that foot in the rear wheel sort of sucked).

Recovery weeks have their place. I was planning on using the last half of the 4th of July week for nothing but base miles myself. Have a great trip, and see ya' soon!
