Tandem Cycling - Tandem trailer / rack recommendations

My wife and I recently bought a tandem and I've been trying to find a rack or hitch mount rack that will carry it. I have a full size pickup with a tonneau bed cover so an in-bed rack won't work.

I was wondering what you folks use and if you know of a trailer / rack solution for a tandem and regular road bikes. May be wishing for too much but thought I'd ask.

A no-rack solution:
Lift up tonneau cover. Put thick old quilt or big chunk of foam rubber on truck bed as padding. Lay the tandem flat on this. Depending on length of truckbed/tandem, you may need to remove one or two wheels. Secure tandem frame to tiedowns with bungees or even old bicycle inner tubes. Close tonneau and GO!

Our tandem fits perfectly in a full size bed, so Rudy and Kay's recommendation may be the thing. If you use foam or other padding, it very well could be the case that the tandem won't move and you would not need tiedowns. Remember to put the tandem derailleur-side-up. If this works, post pics! This could be an ideal tandem "rack".

UPDATE: With the wheels off it sticks out hardly any more than my regular bike with the wheels on...

I use a receiver hitch type that I already use regularly for my other bikes and carry it on the rear.. I just remove both wheels. It still sticks out a bit, but I did not have to buy a new rack...

Oh, it's one of those swing away models so access to the rear is not an issue.
