I have narrowed my bike search to two bikes...a 2000 Specialized S-works M4 (all durace) and a Jamis Eclipse (all ultegra). Both are about the same price $2000. Is this a no brainer, or can a good arguement be made for the Jamis. The bikesa are from different shops... one store being significantly more "bike friendly"

Me? I'd go with the bike friendly shop. You'll get better service and a better fit.

Having said that, it's a tough choice. DA can be pretty finnicky, but it's light and polished. The 2000 S-Works M4 frame is, IMO, much nicer than the 2001 model, but I prefer steel -- besides, the Jamis is a pretty light steel frame.

If you're planning long rides, go with the steel bike. If you're going to be racing crits, go with the M4 -- but be prepared to check for cracks after ever crash.

Personally, I'd go with the Jamis, but that's just because I've never liked the feel of the M4 road bikes and I have doubts about the long-term durability of Al/M4 frames, and I prefer the Jamis's Ksyrium wheelset to the M4's Helium wheels...
