BMX - Bike Checks

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hey guys, The attachment pics are of my Dave Mirra Signature 540 Air Bike from 2004? My parents got this bike for me when I was young keeping in mind that it would last me a long time and I'd eventually grow into it. Well time has come that I am now 5'11" 150lbs. and ready to use it. I've been trying to do flatland tricks, but I struggle because of the weight. I do not have a scale to tell you... but I estimate it at around 40lbs. It hinders my ability to do any stunts. I am hoping that I could sell it to put money towards a new lighter one. How much do you think it can sell for?
I will replace the handle grips and get a new front brake for it.
It Has:
metal footpedals
a large sprocket
gyro brake system
cushioned seat
4 pegs
metal rings at the end of the handles to protect the actual handle
Basically all stock parts.
other issues are the tires are about bald and there are a lot of cosmetic flaws (scratches)
Other wise the bike rides really nice. I am assuming it is supposed to be for dirt bmx considering the heavy duty build.
So... Price? I'd appreciate the feedback :thumb:

Its not worth a whole lot man, sorry. 7 years old? and the weight shouldn't have any effect on tricks at all, you just have to put more effort into them.

You won't get much out of it. $50? Throw it in a yard sale or something and put $75 or $100 on it.

The soon to be putter, midschool fatboy. Just need to finish stripping paint, repaint and get grips and new chain, and probably new front wheel.

Same boat. I brought my fixie to school for commutes and such, left my BMX home. So sad.

Wrong bike man. How much better is a fixie than a BMX for commute? It can't be that much better, plus it's not as fun. BMX > SS > fixie.

Depends on how long the commute is for me.

My commute varies. Depends on what I'm doing/where I'm going. And you just have to ride fixed for a while to understand it I guess. Theres just something like a deep connection to it that feels really good

It works fine for me now too. My plug-ins were acting really dumb for a few days. Couldn't get youtube, vimeo, netflix, anything like that to work on this browser. And the bike looks pretty nice man.

Still brakeless at the moment, which I guess just makes it all the trendier:rolleyes: But I'm going to be getting brakes before I commit to anything too serious. On the ad, it still had some CB 50-50's that he was going to include in the $100 price!! But naturally, someone saw & offered him a pretty penny for the pedals alone :( All the same, I'm about to take her out to the local BMX track before work!

Naming a bike, I can see. Naming it like that? thats a bit of a stretch. Rename it as a woman. Thats more acceptable.

Apparently my post got deleted and I got infractions. I'll clean it up.
Basically, what you call "acceptable" is your own opinion, and you're entitled to it, but apparently our opinions differ. I named my bike what I wanted to name it, and if you don't like it, hey, that's your opinion.
Continuing on.
Why I picked this name: I like the sound of it, and how it looks. Also, it is not gender specific, alot like my bicycle, and everyone's bicycle. Bikes are not gender specific. So, anyway, if you don't like how I named my bike, live with it.

So basically what you're saying is "You're entitled to your opinion, just not the freedom to voice it."
And yeah, telling people to insert members into their bodies generally doesn't go over well with the mods. Who'da thunk?
To be a little more pleasant, though, I'll say that's a nice looking bike you got there. I honestly don't know jack about BMX bikes (I just picked one up for something more nimble to play on when I can't make it to the MTB trails), but it looksnice to me:lol:

Slow ya roll homie. I was just being a bit sarcastic. Apparently fgss has been rubbing off on me. But don't you think its a little stupid to flip **** on the internet?
And I apologize. I do like the looks of it, especially the super vibrant spokes on your rear. Character.

26's, usually have it on slicks but it was snowing the other day so I figured it was time to put the knobbies on. Been tossing the idea around of building up one of my old frames with some parts I have laying around or just building up a Little Buddy frame.

Thats pretty awesome either way. And over in ssfg, someone else was talking about slipping on ice, and it was answered that slicks are somewhat better, because there's more surface contact.

It's a 2012 Mirraco 20Forty, pretty bone stock with Black Label components except for the Sunday 24umph XL bars I put on it (which are made of awesome; if you ride 24" you should be running these bars.) Aside of the bars I'm probably not going to replace any parts until I break them.
