hi~ just bought used bike from my friend happen to be experienced downhill biker, salsa frame loaded with simano xtr component for hydaulic breake, shifter, rear derailler.. i'm pretty happy with what i get. but he told me it doesn't have front derailler, crankset is not simano xtr but Truvativ Stylo al 7050 tv Crankset with Single, unramped ring. if i add front derailler, upgrade to xtr crankset, is it going to make bike go faster, easier to ride?? do i have a lot of advantage if i do so??? as being new to moutain biking, help me out to get clear answer please~

Might get better answers here.....;)
it sounds like you have a 1x8 or 1x9 setup on there.
I would leave it as is and ride it. If you feel that you are 'running out' of gearing, either high or low, and it bothers you , then get the triple crankset and front derailler. you will need a front shifter also.
1x9 setups are usually all you ever need, unless you do alot of extended climbing or ride a distance on the road to get to the trailhead
do you plan on racing? I ask because you ask about reaping some advantage from new cranks

What are you looking to do with this bike?
sounds like a very good downhill build...this bike was not built to peddle...needs gravity to achieve it's full potential
how much does it weigh?

i dont thinks that it is a downhill bike
perhaps if he were to post a pic, or advise the model?...but you're right, Salsa doesn't offer a DH bike

only to you
..this bike was not built to peddle...
if he wants to use the bike to peddle his wares, who are you to tell him not to?
needs gravity to achieve it's full potential
Don't we all though
