Introductions - Just joined

This is my first log-on and am amazed with the number of postings!!! This is a big site!!!

Just did a "re-and-re" on a 2003 Fisher Marlin and painted it grey to make it less of a target. Words of advice: painting a frame is very time consuming :eek: . Did the full tear-down, sandblast, acid etch, epoxy prime, and polyurethane top coat. Should last awhile but took me many hours over a couple of weeks.

Trying to set the bike up for X-Country trekking. Nothing too dramatic at first but hope to build up to rough country excursions of several weeks at a time. Atm I'm riding off road for an hour or more every day and am working at getting organized for overnighters. I like to travel light so it's taking awhile to get things sorted.

Hello Hoodoo, your soon-to-be adventures sound quite interesting. I hope you will be taking a camera with you, even though you travel light, as some photos would seem to be mandatory.

lol - yup Lanky Lass, lots of pics will be in order. Am used to hauling around an old SLR (c/w lens and lots of film cannisters), so am not fussed about packing a digital camera on the bike. Batteries might be the only concern.

Congrats on the 361 Tom! That's an accomplishment !!!

I couldn't see your photos last night at work (they were blocked), and now that I can see them, I love the shop!

Are you saying that you carved the art for the public gallery, and then your wife painted the same piece of art?

Yup Lanky Lass, I took about 400 hours to build and sculpt this piece and then my wife does the paint (acrylics). This piece was shown at the Toronto Art Expo in March/07 where it was purchased by Gallery Arcturus (http://www.arcturus.ca/) to become part of their permanent public collection. Neat huh!

And thanks Tadpole ... but actually there is no canvas involved in any of our work. Each piece is hand carved from glued up solid wooden panels (western red cedar in this case) and then painted so that they appear to be on conventional canvas. Technically it's a painted sculptur in bas relief form. Here are some pics which should explain things a bit ...
