Bike is a Rocky Mountain Experience with a Crystalyte X503 hub motor and controller, 91v x 20Ah of NiMH cells. Rock Shox Boxxer fork, Hope Mono 6 Ti brakes and a few other custom bits. The display is a DrainBrain from www.ebikes.ca.

http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=8182989019047780635 Going fast IF you like to is great on flat lands but try some long, steep hills AND go fast with the same set up that will also go 47 mph or more on the flats both using under 1300 watts (without pedaling)that you can do for hours EFFICIENTLY not just a few minutes.

There aren't any steep hills on my daily commute. And if I need to go up hills, 40mph on a 10% grade works for me.

It's mighty convenient that almost no one else has climbs high enough to satisfy your requirements. Anyone with extra cash to burn could put together a bike to do that climb in well under 2 hours.

That setup you have there is very impressive. I watched your videos in the kitchen while I was cooking dinner this evening, and I'd like to know more about how you did that stuff.

The motor is an off the shelf Crystalyte X503, controller is a 72v x 35A Crystalyte with upgraded (IRFB4110) MOSFETs and adjustable current limiting. 76 NiMH 2D cells make a 92.1v x 20Ah pack, and the best part is anyone could build this power system with no special tools, machining or fabrication. All parts including the DrainBrain were purchased from www.ebikes.ca and mostly assembled in my living room. Installing the high performance MOSFETs requires some soldering skills, and there's an excellent tutorial here:

Most of my commuter riding averages 30-35mph, but it's nice to have extra power to maintain speed on hills, as well as going with the flow of traffic to take the shortest route.

Simplicity and availability rules.
