I was shopping in my local supermarket when I came across this Hemp Protein Powder (http://www.manitobaharvest.com/products/index.asp?itemID=158). No sugar added, no preservatives, no additives, chemical free. 15g of protein per 30g. I'll let you know how it goes.

Thought you might want to know... :)

I am sure it is good for you. I am even more sure it's more than I plan on paying.

Hemp is marijuana, man, you know like POT.
I think the protein comes from the seeds.

Well, that's not exactly correct. They are very similar plants though. Hemp does not contain the THC element that gets you high. The fibers are very strong - it is where hemp rope use to come from. Now they make all sorts of clothing from hemp.

The problem is, the Government doesn't like you growing Hemp because they have a very difficult time determining if you are growing Hemp or Marijuana.

Governmental overkill, basically.

No it's a seed. Hemp seed, from the Cannabis plant.

Indeed, though this seems to be less of an issue here in Canada. There is a thriving hemp industry in the western part of the country, we're starting to see a lot more little hemp shops popping up everywhere offering nutritional products, clothing, soap, etc made from hemp.

Well, that's not exactly correct.

<> Both are Cannabis Sativa

They are very similar plants though.

<> Check the link for the taxonomic distinctions, both are Cannabis Sativa, hemp comes from a subspecies sativa var. sativa <>

Hemp does not contain the THC element that gets you high.

<> I believe it does, but in very small quantities. <>

The fibers are very strong - it is where hemp rope use to come from. Now they make all sorts of clothing from hemp.

<> Yeah, there is a wide variety of overpriced products made from hemp <>

<> Pot was a common herbal medicine from the earliest days of the country.
It was a popular headache remedy until opium and aspirin came along.
There is some controversy as to why it was made illegal. It is quite likely that
it's illegality is what saved it from becoming a curiosity of history.

But it is also a good example of bad politics. The first campaign against it saved it. Then Nixon did his Drug War as a revenge on hippies. There was no medical reason to do that, but there were medical reasons not to. Then when Reagan revived the Drug War it forced Latin Americans into smuggling hard drugs like cocaine. Cocoaine went from rare and expensive to something you could get anywhere for $5. And that was a disaster. <>

This complete and utter ****rag has a lot to do with it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_J._Anslinger

Cannabis could have been extremely useful as an everyday remedy for pain relief, a material for clothing and other fabric items, a nutrition supplement and even an alternative social crutch for non-drinkers. But nooooo. Taboo and illegality and negative perception ensures that it stays a niche product.

Btw 50% protein isn't particularly high, although the protein is very high quality. Soy protein powder generally contains 95% protein... but it's thought that too much soy protein could give you man-boobs or worse

It's certainly nature's pain reliever.

I had a bit last Saturday after an unplanned solo century and I was feeling no pain!

It actually helped me fall asleep easier as I have trouble getting to sleep when my whole body is aching. I woke up the next morning feeling great and ready to ride again.
