I recently purchased a older one speed cruiser at a garage sale and am having some trouble locating parts for it. I don't want to "restore" it, only to ride it around safely.

For example I would like to put a longer seatpost on it (13/16" I think), and a new crankset (one of the old pedals is crossthreaded), but I haven't found a good online site for such parts.

The bike closely resembles a Schwinn "Heavy Duty" though it has no badges and I can't even determine the manufacturer.

Can anyone suggest some online resources for these sorts of parts? Catalogs?

You could try http://www.oldroads.com to try and identify, and locate parts online. However a local Schwinn dealer may be able to help you as well.

None of the parts you mentioned are obsolete. They are still used on Department store bikes and should be available at almost any bike shop.

Thanks for the replies. I have been having luck working with my LBS. It seems everything is still pretty easy to get, and the owner has turned out to be a big help. The last time I tried to "restore" a cruiser (14 years ago?) I tried using alloy BMX parts and wasn't very happy with the result.

I had seen Oldroads, but it was too vintage oriented for my needs. I just want a nice rider to take to the cafe, while I leave my "nice" bikes in the garage.
