This weekend just gone I went to the Cycle Rally at York Racecourse, and so did several thousand others.
Lin was going over to Durham to pick up her son from Uni. So I got lift for most of the way.
It was still early so I took a country road and got lost, making a 20 mile ride there into over 30miles.
There were lots of trade stands, exhibitions, cycle polo.

http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/imjibi/York for a few piccies sunday morning the sun was shing
It was very well organised by the CTC, with catering, auctions, saddlebag ( like a carboot) sale, organised rides for all abilities, even an AUDAX. As I put my tent up the heavens opened, thunder, lightning torrential rain, but it only lasted 10 mins and the rest of day was OK.
Quite a few people were interested in the Rohloff and several had a ride of my bike to test it out. I was like a rep for them in the end answering questions etc. I only saw 2 others all weekend , and I was looking.
I chose a ride that went around the chocolate factories, it was about 25 miles and very enjoyable, but no sampling, bumm3r.
In the evening another ride out into the country and stopped at a quintessential english pub, duck pond cricket pitch the works. The ride back was take no prisoners 20 to 25mph in the dark.( I couldn't shake them off my back wheel LOL)
Sunday morning was warm and sunny. Hundreds attended the service in York Minster, and thousands more turned up for the ride back from the Minster to the racecourse. Including a couple of penny farthings (ordinaries), space ships, unicycles, in fact every type of bike imaginable.
I went to buy the things I had seen on the Saturday in the trade stands. But I never found any Schwalbe Marathon XR tyres that I had hoped to buy there.
Then it was time for the ride home, and it rained, it rained all the way for 75 miles over the Pennines almost fully loaded. Took about 9 hours, very wet, cold, and depressing.
But today I am just thinking about the friends I met, and made.
It was a good weekend, cycled 140 miles in total.
