Hi All, I'm from the Okanagan Valley in BC. I began cycling as a kid, and was forced into bike mechanics when my folks stopped funding my repairs. The last straw was riding two other friends with me on my new CCM 3 speed in a local ravine. A nasty tree jumped out and broke my frame in three places. Oh well, it began my career as a died in the wool do-it-yourselfer. I cobbled together another bike out of the remnants of my 3-speed and a substitute frame. Since then I've been building all kinds of things, from houses to data information systems. I rode bikes through grade school and university. I road through my early child-raising years and work years. I never really stopped. I had a Gitane 10 speed for 27 years and my "new bike" a Tech nova mountain bike has been my ride for probably 12 years. I've taken it on the Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia and the Gitane went on the Banff Jasper ride ... a long time ago. I love bikes and happen to think that they represent one of human-kind's great achievements, perhaps next to music. I recently picked up a second bike at the local junk yard. I wasn't looking for a bike although in the back of my mind I have for some time wished I had a road bike. This bike, a "Peugeot Gallibier" was laying on a pile of metal and as I drove past it caught my eye. I had to go back for a second look. I threw it in my truck quickly (your not allowed to 'scavenge') and had a closer look at home. Well this bike seemed so light* and straight and true. It just seemed to say "I aint ready for the trash!". Perhaps with a degree of empathy for that sentiment, I decided to at least see what I could learn about it. I picked up a new front wheel, and have really enjoyed the feeling of riding and rescuing what (to me at least) is a great ride. We fly!! So to wrap this intro up, I hope to maybe make a knowledgeable friend or two in the cycling world, maybe learn more about road bikes of this type... terminology, maintenance, tools (geezz... it looks like finding ones that fit this bike will be a challenge) etc etc. That's all folks! *Ok I know some of you are laughing. It's sure a lot lighter than my MB.
