Yer, hurray for saving your bike!!! How did you manage to grab the top tube to prevent it from hitting the ground??

I've gotten to the point where my first instinct is to try a massive bunny hop over the bike rather than locking up the brakes. Not sure if that's really safer or whatever, but every time I've locked up the brakes I've gone down.

Tip: don't break your fall with your hand. Great way to destroy your wrist. Tuck, and roll! :D

Bunny hop the bike, land on the sidewalk, slam into the nice grandma and her grandson, ricochet off of a garbage can, and wind up on the steps of the county court house.
uhhh ... wasn't gonna work in this case. But not a bad idea.

That's me standing up, not falling down. I did much better than use my hand, I broke my fall with my forearm and my ass.
Where did that happen, the S-turn or coming out of the alley? Looks like the guy in the foreground needs a new kit, how'd you make out?

Corner of exchange and court
I've got serious rash on my arm. hip/ass is OK. On the upside, I just ordered a new frame at lunch.

easier said then done. When I went over my bars I didnt have anytime to react and I dont even remember putting out my arm to break my fall. Its just an instinct. Maybe if I had even a fraction of a second to prepare I wouldnt have done it. Of course I did hit the left side of my head and my left shoulder so I am not sure how my right arm was even involved in the crash.
Gene,
It sounds like you are alright and thats the good thing.

Wierd huh? I slid out during a right hand turn, yet I'm all scraped up on my left side. Dont remember hitting the ground, only the stuff leading up to it.
Glad you're OK too, it was a crashfest out there.

Not to mention a great way to break one's collar bone. An even worse fate, trust me.

D'oh, caught on a CCD.
I saw you bust up the side and even though we've ridden together for years I thought DAMN I've never seen you go so fast/put in that serious of a dig (as I usually you see your dumb arse grin as you ride at a taunt the Mojo speed).
Glad it wasn't worse - coming onto Court street I shimmied twice pretty good and did one power slide extrodinare. I knew that corner was slippery but it caused 3 or 4 accidents in the Cat 5 race.
Glad your OK!

I think you're talking about the lap before when I was trying to bridge to the lead group of 4. I guess I managed to bring the whole group with me, which isn't such a good thing. But I was killing it just to get there.
PM sent.

Great advice...But each time I have crashed, I have reflexively put out my hand. So far, I've been lucky -- just a bit of road rash on the palm but no broken bones (yet!).
