First off, I didn't crash. Everything after that is gravy.
I did two of the three events.
Saturday Crit:
This course was crazy. By far the most technical course I've ever seen.
Features:
Off-camber 180 degree turn.
8 turns in a 1k course. Very little straight road.
Enough climb to hurt.
Some narrow single file section.
Enough descent to build up speed right before:
A very sketchy right turn through an uneven driveway and manhole cover in the optimal line. Max speed: ~20mph
All in all, it made for continuous acclerations all race long. I think the biggest group by the end of the race was 3 or 4 riders. The race had blown up all over the course. I lapped a few riders, and got lapped by the winners in the last lap. I would have hated to be a judge. I got 7th, but there were only 21 racers registered.
Sunday RR:
7 laps. 42 miles. 100 foot climb to the finish line. I had some problems clipping in. There was a break for laps 2 through 5. I took a few turns on the front helping the chase effort. I was feeling great, and finding it easy to contribute. Lap 6 was slow and easy. I stayed in the top 10 during lap 7, usually top 5. About a mile to go, there was a van stopped in the course, directly blocking the entire lane. It caused a lot of confusion. I wouldn't be surprised if it had a few dents and scrapes in the paint job by the time the pack got through. On the final climb, I felt like I was in good position.
I just didn't have it. I shifted wrong and ran out of gas. I got passed by about 10 riders up the hill. I probably burned too much energy during the last lap. I ended up 15/~50.
