Stoker hand positions

My stoker sometimes rides hands-off in a very upright posture. This position leads her to want a second narrow and mostly flat handlebar mounted on her own seat post and below her saddle. I feel that a captain's hands should be on front handle bars, but granting additional hand positions to the stoker doesn't seem like an unreasonable thing to do. Has anybody else done this?

The stoker position on recumbant tandems usually has this setup, but I've never seen it on an upright....

My wife does occasionally sit upright, kind of scoots back on her saddle, and grasps the saddle nose. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure if she does that for stability when she sits up straight, or if it's a butt break type of thing. I'll have to ask next time I notice her doing it.

actually, my wife came up with this request as well.
i'm just afraid that if i give-in she will request to have a cup holder and a book stand.
no, but seriously, has someone given this a try? all it need would be a stem and maybe a mustache bar mounted backwards, right?

My wife had a recumbent seat on out tandem. She has read while we rode. Then passes snacks back to me. Give your spouse what she wants on the bike or you may end up giving her half of what you own.

I added curved bar ends to the stroker bar for my daughter so she doesn't have to reach so far.

Seems to me that this might interfere with departing from the bike if/when it stops suddenly during an accident (ex., T-boning a car that did not yield right-of-way while crossing an intersection, or a deep pothole) and might even result in broken femur(s), which can be fatal. Given that this proposed location and fastening strategy is substantially different from conventional operation, I would carefully consider the severity of low-probability events outside the intended range of operation.
