hey could anyone tell me if I could find a quality 2 wheel recumbent for around $500? I have had prostatitis problems and can't hang in a traditional saddle. I just ordered a ergonomical seat to try on my DF. I'm considering going to a recumbent, I've heard there is no prostate issues on recumbent bikes. thanks

500 bucks can be tough. I'd look for a ras rocket onebay, or mayv a bike E?

Maybe a used Sun EZ1 or BikeE.

EZ 1 goes for about 550 new/assembled at local bike shops. There's a rental shop on a bike trail that bolts them together into quad cars for a few years, then he separates them and refurbishes them for about 300.

I've been riding my Sun EZ 1 for a few months now. Back problems and comfort desires landed me on the rolling lawn chair. :) The only pain I've had on speedy 40 mile rides have been general thigh fatigue and sun burn.

A used recumbent is probably your best bet. For a few hundred more, you can buy a new one from www.actionbent.com.

I am looking for a three wheel recumbent for my father. He has had health problems and wants to try biking again, but his balance is not so good. Is there a bike for around $500 that would be good for short rides on bike paths? Thanks for the assist.

You can sometimes find a Sun Tadpole for around that...

Keep an eye on the Hostel Shoppe http://www.hostelshoppe.com/ classifieds. They have a few recumbents in the $500 range. The WISIL recumbent site also has classifieds http://www.wisil.recumbents.com/forsale.asp There are a couple more in the $500 range. I would suggest before buying a recumbent that you make a trip to a recumbent dealer and try some of the different styles. It's really hard to determine what type recumbent you will like from reading descriptions. A long wheelbase with pedals below the seat vs pedals about seat height or a short wheelbase with pedals about seat height vs a high racer with pedals 6 or more inches above a feel and ride differently. Once you decide on a type then you can keep an eye on the classifieds (or if you are handy build your own) for a type you would like.
