I never know what to write for introductions.....I will try and be brief ...
I am in my 40's, living in South Florida. Got interested in biking because I wanted to participate in the MS 150 bike tour in April of this year. While training I quickly learned that my old Schwinn beach cruiser was not going to cut it - unless I wanted to be on that tour a really long time! I always loved the cruiser and have never really liked road bikes, mostly because I don't like drop bars. I did some quick research and figured that a hybrid was the way to go for my personal preferences. I am very happy with the hybrid and have joined a local bike club with one of my collegues from work. So, now that we completed the tour and have continued to ride I have really gotten into this "bike porn" stuff you guys all talk about. I find myself here staring at photos of Brooks saddles and such.
In case you are wondering about the hybrid (confession time) it's a Motobecane Elite FS which I purchased on Ebay. I have upgraded the bike with a Brooks B66 Champion saddle (same as a B17 with springs - love those springs) and also add a Nashbar trekking bar. The Motobecane is really working out great and the upgrades are working out great too. We went on a 62 mile tour yesterday and no problems sitting in the saddle at all. One of my buddies behind me was yelling "oh the chaffing!!!" - I felt bad for him, but also felt that the $100 saddle was well worth it. If I ever get to a point where speed becomes an issue maybe I will trade up for a faster bike, but at this point in time it's the motor that needs to be worked on - the bike is capable of going quite fast - it's up to me to be able to maintain that speed.
How's that for an introduction?
