Introductions - Hiya from NY looking to get into road cycling

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Well, I had a beater mountain bike for years and I'm looking to get into a road bike... my only problem is that the local bike shop looked at me like I had two heads when I said I wanted to spend like $300. Can a decent road bike be had for that?

Used, possibly.

Anyway, welcome!

Hello thehenbarris, you could possibly consider the Denali if you have any wrenching skills. It would not be my first choice, but here's a thread to keep you busy:

Otherwise, check Craigslist, the local thrift shops, and garage sales in your area. A good used steel road bike is a joy to ride, and relatively easy to keep in good nick. If you have questions about the suitability of anything you find, just ask over at Classic & Vintage.

Welcome to BF!
