Bicycle Mechanics - Steel bike care?

I am picking up a leftover 2006 Buenos Aires on Thursday. I was just wondering what, if anything, special I should do for care of the bike. It is the Steel/Carbon frame. I am really excited to get it, and I want it to last a long time.

I figure that as long as I keep in reasonably clean and dry, it'll be just fine. But should I put in some anti corrosion in the frame while it's new?

Yes. Treat the inside of the frame with J.P. Weigle's Frame Saver (http://www.universalcycles.com/shopping/product_details.php?id=7824) every couple of years if you live in a humid area.

Do what I did: buy a second (or 3rd and 4th) bike that won't rust, and never ride your nice steel bike in the rain. :) I got sick of freaking out about riding my steel Cervelo in the wet, after I once found 1/8 inch of water sitting in the bottom bracket shell.

It gives you an excuse to buy another bike. :)

I sprayed fish oil on mine, but it was very hard to penetrate every spot, and it wiped right off after it got soaked. So, i thought "stuff it, I just won't ride it on wet days"

Use Weigles and drill a hole (or 2) in the BB Shell to drain the water. You will end up with water in any frame but having a hole in the BB keeps it drained. I ride steel in sun, rain, and snow...with the framesaver I never worry. Still prefer the ride of a steel frame.

OK. Frame saver it is. I am not one that is going to "worry" everytime the bike gets a little wet. I will just use some frame saver and ride the crap out of it. If it rusts, so be it. I will just have to get the latest and greatest :)

My "rain bike" is an '83 vintage Trek lugged steel frame I bought used but in excellent shape about 5 years ago. I did a thorough Frame Save treatment on it as soon as I got it and it is still solid after 5 years of being ridden ONLY in rain/snow/salt/ice/etc.
