Going up to the UP next week and thought I would throw the mtn bike on the top of the car for the trip... any good trails that people would offer?

If you come to marquette there are tons of good trails. What bike do you have? You could always go on a group ride if you want, and I could point some out to you.

I grew up in Fremont, MI but frequently visited the UP on family outings. I have hiked the Pictured Rocks Nat. Forest as a kid and if my memory serves me it would be a pretty fun single track to ride.
I wasn't in to MTB then but when I visit again I will definitely try to get up there. If nothing else, the hike and the view is great.
The trail runs right along the cliffs dropping right down (way down) into Lake Superior. Not on the edge like death defying but within 50 feet most of the time.
Go see Tahquamenon (sp?) Falls too, if you get time. They're beautiful.

Stop in some of the local shops up there...they all seem really cool, hell i even got a hand drawn map made for me when I went up there...haha.
Hope you have more than one chainring up front...tons of climbing!! But very cool riding!

Not sure where you plan to be in the Yew Pee, but Keweenaw Adventures in Copper Harbor will take you on a guided ride for $20/rider/half day. Drop into most any bike shop and get directions. I too have gotten hand drawn maps from Upper Penninsula bike shops.

Iron Mountain is a good place to ride. Fumee Lake Natural Area has some pretty sweet single track. I've heard there's some excellent stuff up in Marquette, if you hunt (still need to get up there). Houghton/Hancock has some great stuff. Tech trails in Houghton, and Churning Rapids in Hancock. Also, Copper Harbor supposedly has the best mountain biking in the midwest. It's definitely the best stuff that I've ridden. All in all, there's some great stuff up here.

Yes, I have. As a matter of fact, a friend and I are going there next week, too! Maybe we will even see some of the good Bikeforum folks there if they go to Copper Harbor!
