Fixed gear, parts??

Yo,


Where in Winnipeg can i get fixie parts for my old roadie I never ride? It's shima-no atm, i wana go fixed for little $$$ Can I just remove the casette and replace with a single? Where can I get that, and I assume I'll need spacers ect.

You can get a rear wheel with a flip-flop hub from Norco for $105. This should be available from any bike shop in Winnipeg. You then need a fixeg cog and a lock ring, these vary in price. NRG and Marinoni are both good distibutors that sell fixed gear stuff. I would say go to a LBS that you like and tell them what you want, if they don't know where to get it, just give them the distributor names I mentioned.

Sweet, can i not use my current hub/wheel? A fixed cog that screws on like the current cassette. Pull all shifters and shorten up the chain then ride in style. Paris, that's from a Hip tune.....what city? I forget.

Paris of the Prairies = Saskatoon. A fixed cog needs the lockring to has a reverse thread, otherwise it can unscrew itself when you stop, thus a fixed specific hub.

Good point, what about a free-wheel single?

You can get a single spped kit for $20 or less, it is really just 2 spacers and a cog. I have done this to me mountain bike and it works fine.

you will need a chain tensioner. add another 20 bucks to your tally.

old road bike more than likely has semi horizontal drop-outs, so a chain tensioner is probably not needed.

Try Natural Cycle on Albert street (it's in the basement, below Mondragon)

They specialize in single speed conversions. I got an IRO flip-flop hub for about $70 there.
