"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - Weekend's crit racing- The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

In the exact order too...

The Good- After close to a month off getting fat and assassinating large fish, I returned to the warm embrace of the team. 45+ open race we ate up several of the primes, set up the train, and dropped our sprinter off at Victory's doorstep. It's pretty sweet watching your guy cross the line with arms up.

The Bad- Followed it up with the 35 1/2/3. Hung around with the fast crowd but couldn't do much and realized that, while I still had some speed, my endurance wasn't very good. Did I mention the time off?

The Ugly- Downtown charity crit race. Rode the Elite 3 race which was a prime example of the failure of our educational system in the fields of math and physics. The kids were clearly unaware of the fact that two objects cannot occupy the same space at the same time, and that intersecting arcs will cross. Idiotic riding. Tried to lead out a friend on the first prime but he pulled out of his pedal. After the 4th crash I went into survival mode, I'm almost scab free and healed up right now and I'd like to stay that way. 26th out of 80 or so starters.

Back to base and build for Everest, with some lead out work tossed in there. Part of me is wanting to get back to racing a bunch (I does luv that stuff), but the coach is doing his best to keebosh this and focus on a later goal...

Vino,

Good to see that you're back to racing.

Cat 3? I thought you upgraded to Cat 2?

It looks like your Cat-2-O-Meter is broken, I think you pushed it beyond its tolerance limit. :D

So, what's next?

I'll be doing the Leesville Gap RR this Saturday.

Might run down and do Vacaville, entered 4th of July and Coyote, I'm not in the kind of shape I need to be in to do Leesville so I'm passing.

The 2/3 thing is an interesting story, summary is in a stage race if two people break down on the way to the race, or you make the race too hard, you might not get your GC points.

I'm curious too. I can only do one day of racing this weekend; I'm leaning toward Vacaville but I'm intrigued by Leesville. I've never done a RR, only crits. Will Leesville kill me?

It's only 100k, one major climb(1500ft) and some nasty gravel sections :D I'm just wondering which part is the bad stuff.

Let's say you had a set of Kysrium SL3 and a set of 32 spoke Open Pros, which would you ride?

Let's not forget the most important aspect of Leesville...Free Watermelon! I'll be in the 3's race. See ya.

Well I was told to leave the carbons at home and ride my training wheels.

Welcome back, Vino! I was wondering where you'd gone off to. I'll be at Leesville, too. I get to wake up at 0400 to meet my carpool partner at 0430. I got the Cateye BC-100 waterbottle cages just for this event. :D

I haven't done Leesville, but it's pretty much up from the start. Vacaville is supposedly like Santa Cruz if that helps.
