Commuting - Bkln to NJ?

I'd like to start commuting by bike, and am looking for advice on which routes to take from Park Slope. My job recently moved from lower Manhattan to Jersey City, and though it makes a bike commute trickier, it at least makes it possible by having showering facilities and secure bike storage on site. Oh, the irony.

The biggest hurdle is the 6:30 - 9:30am bike ban on the path, though. Does anyone know if this is rigorously enforced, particularly at WTC? Any suggestions on the best way into lower Manhattan from Park Slope would be welcome, too.

PS to Lower Manhattan - at a guess, across to Smith (or a parallel quiter street) and then up to Downtown Brooklyn and across the Brooklyn Bridge. Where are you getting the PATH from, though? Depending on how far it is between the PATH station at the other end at your office, you might consider just getting a cheap bike and leaving it in the city. It's a shame there's no cycle-accessible way to Jersey City - but how about the ferry, do they take bikes on there?

I have bike commuted between Bensonhurst and JC for several years until I got sick of JC and moved to the midtown office. You have to buy a seperate ticket for your bike to bring it on the ferry. This applies to folding bikes also. When I was working in JC, I just bring my folding bike onto the PATH whenever I get there. Some officers might stop you during bike ban hours but in general, they just leave me along. On the return trip, you can ride up to the GWB and cross the river that way :)

The folding bike seems like a capital idea! Plus, I won't have to buy a dozen reflectors and sully my mountain bike.

Anyone have any first-hand experience on them, or know where I can find some reviews? Bike Friday seems kind of expensive. I'm leaning toward the Dahon Mu XL.

I'd go with a Downtube, I love mine. Get the no-sus or front-sus, unless you're cool with the mini, that packs up even smaller. They're the most bang for the buck folders and you can upgrade the crap out of 'em!!!!!
