This Friday I'm trying to ride from Philly to my parents house in Highland, MD and I've got a route planned: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Philly-to-Moms
I scouted the first 30 miles on Sunday, seemed ok, hilly but ok. I'm in good shape (done several centuries) and think I can do it all in one go, but can always bail out and have pop's pick me up. My only concern is the route, mainly crossing the Susquehanna river with route 1. There's another crossing but it's well north of where I'd like to be.
Has anyone crossed at this point (route 1) and is it ok?
Also, if anyone wants to just glanced at the roads I picked and tell me if there's any I should be avoiding please do.
Thanks guys!

Route 1 over the Susquehanna should be fine. I've never biked it, but crossed several times in a car. It's the top of the Conowingo dam, so it's narrow, but the speed limit is also relatively low (30??). Expect some potholes, and if it's windy, there might be some spray from the water. Good luck!

The short section of Rt. 272 from Chrome Rd. to MD 273 is has a section maybe 1/2 mile or so with absolutely no shoulder. Once in MD. Rt 272 and RT 273 have great shoulders.
ENJOY! Give us the details next week!
Awesome, thanks guys!
I'll take McCoury accross the state line then, I may end up around there near the end of rush hour so I'd like to avoid those kinds of roads.
Update: Right after the halfway point I ran over the end of a stick which proceeded to jump into my rear wheel and tear my rear deraileur off. The chain ate it in the spokes, so I'll be replacing 4 of those, as well as a lot of touch up paint on the resulting paint chips on the chainstay. RD seems ok, just needs a new bolt once I get the threaded part out of the hanger. Also a new chain, a couple links on the old one are bent to hell.
I waited 3 hours next to a corn field for my parents to come pick me up. Fortunately, this was right after the rain stopped. Unfortunately, it had rained the previous 4 hours.
I may try this route again in the fall, it worked out pretty well until then. There was one road with chipseal that I wasn't too happy about but other than that some great country riding.
