Fifty Plus (50+) - Denver Area Get-together

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

DENVER AREA GET-TOGETHER
Okay - we have four folks (+1) so far from the Denver area.
DnvrFox, head_wind, Old Hammer Boy, terry b (and Norafox)
I have a suggestion.
I think we should have a get-together - perhaps lunch and a ride. You are welcome to come to my house in Parker, which is easy to get to (right off of E470 and Jordan) and is right on the southern Cherry Creek Trail.
Personally, I think we should keep the ride fairly easy so that all feel comfortable to participate, and no one doesn't come because of too many hills, or excessive length, or whatever.
We could do a nice 20 or 30 mle ride, pretty flat and very scenic. We have some great places for lunch right on the trail.
Any other suggestions or thoughts?
My wife (also a BFN member) would join us for a part of the ride.

Sounds great. I can't come. I live in California. But I think you should do it.

When?
Great question.
When are folks available?
A Saturday would be best for me.
July 7th?

Nutz!! As they (whoever they are) say, timing is everything. This
is week 4 of my retirement and we are about to begin the next
adventure. .....................................................................
Dnvr, I've been intending to call you for ages. For the last 5 years
I worked near the intersection of Orchard and Yosemite/DTC. I
seldom drove (took FREX) so it wasn't convenient to have a bike
there.

Hmm. Are you saying lunch and a ride or a ride and lunch? I ask because the first Saturday of the month is a ride with my Bike Friday club, but we do that in the morning. I think. We've only had one, due to outstandingly crappy weather. Let me find out when that BF ride is -- since I already committed -- and get back to you.

I can't make it the 7th. I am working night shift in Boulder. I could make it the next weekend. Since I will be off Fri-Sunday.

OK - we've got 5 folks now.
Here's the forecast:
Friday Night: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy, with a low around 60.
Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 91.
Would 8:00 am be a better starting time than 8:30?

Oh, darn. I was just out there for the 2007 Bicycle Tour of Colorado (http://www.bicycletourcolorado.com/) which just ended this past weekend. I'll watch for invites for next year when I'm flying there along with my bicycle.

Here's the forecast:
Friday Night: Isolated showers and thunderstorms before 11pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 58. Northeast wind 6 to 8 mph becoming southwest. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Saturday: A 10 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Partly cloudy, with a high near 90. North northwest wind between 6 and 9 mph.
Looks pretty good!
See you all on Saturday 8:00 AM.
You are in for a treat. I'm washing my bibs. If I can get it on, I am going to wear my original BFN jersey. This is the one with the European cut - where the XL was more like a medium.
Anyone else want to join us?

Proposed Routes:
http://members.aol.com/dnvrfox/parkertrail.jpg
This is an older map, and does not show all of the trail system. It has been extended about 8 miles to the south, and has other additions. I live just north of Challenger Park.
Leave from my house, south on the CC Trail to Scott Road - 9 miles.
Return north to Sulphur Gulch Trail - 6.5 miles
East to the top of Sulphur Gulch Trail and return to CC Trail 9 miles
North to the Lighthouse Cafe - pie and other goodies (but no Blueberry) - right off the trail. 2 miles.
North on CC Trail to Cottonwood, end of CC Trail in this region. - 4 miles
Return to my house - 3.5 miles.
Total - about 34 miles or so.
Or, we could go south on the CC Trail to the end at CO 86 (near Franktown) and return - also about 34 miles. However, this includes about 1.5 miles of dirt road each way. I can do it fine on my 700x25's, but it may be a bit rutty for others??
In all there should be about 4 very low traffic residential street crossings, no matter which way we go.
