So I graduated HS a few days ago and I cant help but think about how HS is over and I keep thinking to myself "will I have a good time in college" I had so much fun this year (my senior year) and I am going to miss everybody . I guess I'm in HS withdrawal.....

Don't worry, imagine the fun you've been having... and multiply it by at least 10X !! :)

Without getting into too many details....

College > High School by a factor of at least the ten stated by Danno above.

Seasons of life man...don't sweat it.

Its good that you're going to college. You'll have plenty of fun. Just don't forget...when college is over, you'll be wanting to actually get a real job, preferably in the field of study that necessitated the 4 or 5 years of higher education that, ahem, you or someone else is paying for. Please, if anything else try to keep that in perspective a little more than how many beers you will drink or how many friends you will make.

Sorry if I came off as a killjoy. :D

BTW...pharmacy is a field in great demand right now and will continue to be in the near future. If you haven't already thought about it...I'd consider it.

i graduated high school in 1976. i cry myself to sleep every night, wishing i were back there with my old friends and listening to aerosmith. sometimes i just end up punching my pillow and then screaming into it as loud as i can. life can be so unfair sometimes.

now, i just stay in my mom's basement and watch three stooges shorts, and eat potato chips and drink pepsi. at least three times a week i stay up too late doing this and i'm too tired to get up for the breakfast shift i work at mcdonalds...but that's ok. if i get in trouble there for being late again i pretty much think i can get a job at wendy's.

hang in there, pal. keep the faith. "back to the future" may not have been only a movie. i do believe at some point in our lives time travel will exist. i know this because i read about it on the internet.

Go do a century?

But college was a good time, you'll love it. Most of my friends said that I never got the true 'fun' experience because I worked full time thru most of it to pay the bills(less drinking time/money), and I still had a blast. And thats hopefully not nostalgia cause I just graduated myself last year.

I graduated from high school about 3 years ago and, yes, I miss it, but, college is so much better. You're going to meet a wide array of people who you'll remember forever. I also view college as the time in your life that you learn the most about yourself. If you're going away for college, you're on your own and fending for yourself. It might be weird at first but you'll get used to it.

I have faith in you that you'll be fine.

What is this 'High School' of which you speak?

ms.gio
06-27-07, 12:42 PM
High school is that time in your life (late teens) where you have bad acne, braces, your friends are more important to you than your family, and you go through that glorious thing called...puberty.

Oh yeah, through school in there somewhere.

All the comments above are spot-on. Well, maybe except the guy who is living in his parents' basement as a connisseur (sp?) of Moe, Larry and Curley. As for your original question: How do you snap out of it? You don't - getting used to change comes at its own pace, which is different for everyone. Your post sounds very familiar - I could have written it myself a few . . . some . . . okay, a lot of years back. It works itself out. Really.

For now, try to keep busy. If you can't think of anything else to do, call a nursing home and ask if they have any volunteering opportunities. Believe me, nothing makes you feel good about yourself like reaching out to help someone else.

I hear you and sympathize with you. Being a kid is great. But when graduationg from HS your 'kid" days are numbered. Your freshman year in college will definitely be a transition year.

I think about and miss high school all the time, then i remember that i have to wait 4 agonizing weeks until i get to go back to school.

I use to live my life being mad at myself for all the things i did wrong or wish i changed, then i realized that i only kept doing that because i kept forgetting about today.

Some people never get over the big man on campus syndrome. Like Al Bundy. For them high school truly is the best time of their lives. Others go on to college and acheive popularity that eclipses HS and it becomes the best time of their life. For the rest of us the best of times are whatever point of life you are in currently. Take life one day at a time an enjoy each day to the fullest. Plan for the future, live for today.

Don't worry about snapping out of it. You'll gradually slide out of it over the summer and during the next year. Everything will be okay. It's good to get in the habit of reflecting on experiences - just don't let reflecting on the past turn into a full-time obsession.

If you take any kind of philosophy or "western thought" classes in college, you'll probably be reading some stuff about the tiger in the cage vs. the tiger in the wild and people living in a cave who only see shadows and then you'll have an "ah-ha" moment and realize you're really quite happy to be out of high school after all.

Congratulations on graduating HS, btw.

for me, graduating was a swift kick in the ass from reality. But seriously, if you're going to a 4 year university, GET OVER HIGH SCHOOl.

See, to me, your post reads like this:

OH MY GOD!!! I'm gonna get laid and drunk where ever and when ever I want, and I'll finally have this thing called total freedom!

OH ****!!! MY LIFE IS OVER!!!

Yeah, college is going to be great fun! Seriously, by the time you get a few weeks in, you won't even have a second thought about how you recently finished high school. I went to a college where I didn't know anyone at all. I thought it was going to totally suck, but within a couple of weeks I'd met so many new people and made some great friends that I still keep in touch with five years later :)

I think the bigger shock moment for me was finishing college and realizing that my childhood/adolescence was officially over and I now had to totally fend for myself :( That was quickly overcome by the realization that having a real job meant money to spend doing what I really enjoy, like buying expensive bike schwag....er....um, I mean cycling ;)

You're going to be fine, just give it time :)

Just wait until you see what glorious things nature can do to improve the female physique between the ages of 18.5 and 22...oh man, you won't want to leave.

Unless you are a shy, broke-ass engineering student without a car, like I was, and your life will be full of angst and frustration.

Here's how to get over it: Join the military. HS will seem like such a distant memory that it just won't matter anymore. There is always time for college later in life when you will be more likely to take it serious anyway.

^^^^Probably shouldn't listen to me, I'm counting the days til I'm free of the military. But it's an option if you want to leave home and see places without paying for it.

It's actually not bad advice. In my opinion, most kids graduating from high school are nowhere near mature enough to get all they should out of college.

My wife did a semester after graduation, and didn't do particularly well. She didn't know what she wanted to do, and with that degree of freedom and no solid track, it's easy to get yourself in trouble. She started taking classes again after she had about 8 years of service, and completed 2 Associates degrees with a 4.0. Then she got her B.S., again with a 4.0. She followed that with her Master's with slightly lower than a 4.0. By the time she retired this past May, her education had been completely paid for several years past. Now she's got a retirement check that we never touch except to invest it topped with a solid 6-figure income.

College with no experience usually equals low paying entry level job + massive student loan debt.
College with experience...well, you get the picture.

Not saying it's for everyone, but it's a valid option, even if you just do a single enlistment, take the money, and run.

Youth isn't wasted on the young.
If the geezers had the vitality of youth (to go along with their power and influence), do you have any idea how much more trouble the world would be in?

 how cute, you're worried that you won't have as much fun as you did in HS.

Hopefully it won't take you long to realize what a ridiculous social torture chamber HS was and how much more fun the future is. HS is nothing short of an extensive experience of ass-suckingness.

If you hit 25 and you still reminisce about the "great times" you had in HS, then I would worry for the pathetic life you had built yourself.

lucky53s
06-29-07, 06:15 AM
I remember HS. I wasn't popular or anything like that. Now the class president is manager of a Chic-Fil-A and I'm about ready to get out of the military and have my little nestegg to finish putting myself through college. That social torture chamber where everyone feels awkward has a way of working itself out in the end. If those were the best days of your life, I'm with Nicodemus, your life kind of sucks.
