Thats all taboo in the UK, but I bet it's a competitive sport in the bay area.

Not really. Seat tubes are too narrow.

It's that slipery slope phenemomonon again. First you let them be gay, next thing you know they'll want to plook their bike.

Maybe he was just fixing scrapes on his bike with a new protein based wax?

Why do people assume that I'm gay just because I love my bike? My bikes are andro, but I think they are females.

Welcome to crazy-tow....um...I mean BikeForums, Bibliogrrl!:D

Biblio? Are you a librarian? I ask because we have one or two already...if so, you'll be in good company.

Nope, just a big old book nerd. Worked in bookstores for years, and now at a small publisher.

I have sad right now, because I was all ready to head out to my LBS to have my bike checked out after the road reached up and smacked me (read: I fell down and went boom) yesterday, but now it's pouring. Boo.

Thanks for the welcome!

I have! Have a post there already! I've been working on her, but am being cranky and frustrated at the squealing brakes right now. I'm also anxiously awaiting a new back tire that won't be here for another week. OH the fancy new tire. It's reflective and had to be special ordered because I have an old road bike (stupid old 27 x 1 1/4 tires). But it'll be totally shiny and blingy once it gets here. Shiny is awesome. heh.

I have a cranky old road touring bike as well......20 year old Schwinn Passage, lugged steel, friction DT shifters.

There are advantages to that 27X1 1/4 tire size! You can get tires even in "Smalltown", USA at Walmart or other department stores if you are touring!;)

Mine's a Schwinn World Varsity. She's a good girl. I need to get the brakes checked out, I want to get new pads for the front. They haven't been right since I put my fenders on. My co-worker (and awesome bike nerd) thinks it's the tension, but I know for a fact that everything on the bike is original, so better safe than sorry.

I also want to get me some gloves. Stupid road rash. ha.

Cool, I love old Schwinns. I agree with Stacey, by the way, do get a helmet if you don't already have one! I'd hate to lose another Schwinn lover.;)

If the pads are original, then, yep, I'd likely replace them too! They will have gotten hard from the elstomers leaching out of the rubber compound.

Oh, I totally have a helmet, would not be without it. Had it before I had the current bike. I'd no sooner ride without one than I would ride in a car without a seatbelt.

I think the brake problems are exactly that... OLD PADS. You should see the tires. Those were original too. EEK.

see above reply. :D

The only thing I don't like about my helmet/bike is that they do not match. ha.
I think I'll end up detailing the bike with red to match my bag....

Note: Any acronym you find on the internet that ends in the letters "ILF" is likely not something you want to look up at work or in polite company.

Is it old enough to have steel wheels? I have a thing (more like a phobia) about steel wheels.

I'm pretty certain they are aluminum. She's an 87, and she's pretty lightweight. I know the frame's cro-moly. Now that the storm has stopped, I need to get off my butt and get over to the LBS. *sigh*

I am so unmotivated to move, but I also do not want to take the bus to work tomorrow.
