"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - Weekly Crit Report...i'm getting better!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Best crit for me yet. I didn't go out too hard...hung with the pack until about 2 minutes left when the group pass a lapped rider into a corner and I chose the wrong side (outside) of him....he freaked as the group passed fast on the inside and he dove to the outside curb forcing me to completely stop....lost the group and couldn't catch up. However it is the first time I wasn't lapped or even close to being lapped...i'm getting better!
On another note..maybe a rant...they had a cornering clinic tonight taught by a USA cycling coach...I think it should be mandatory for the C racers to complete one of these clinics before racing. Way too many sketchy people who really shouldn't be out there...the guy that freaked was one who was here for his first crit of the season and he didn't pay the $5 for the clinic!
Stats:
20.25 mins
7.33 miles
21.6 mph Avg
30.3 mph Max
156 Avg. Hr. (down 9 from last week)
187 Max.
So basically i could go harder!! Watch out Garysol ;) I'm gunning for you in the Crit in Memphis this weekend ;)
Way to go, Chris... Keep on lining up and you'll only get stronger.

No accounting for mishaps (as I found in my last crit). Good job with the confidence and fitness

awesome. soon you'll be finishing with the lead pack. and get ready, racing is a lot more fun when you no longer have the fear that you'll be dropped. you'll be there soon.

I'm sure I am in for a 30 minute spanking......that is if I survive the RR and the TT on Saturday.

At the Deland road race last Saturday there was a guy who showed up in a t-shirt who told us he just bought his bike two weeks previously and his longest ride had been about 30 miles. I was impressed with his desire to race, but worried about his bike handling so within two miles of the start of the race I took the lead and drilled it into the mid-30s for a few miles and shagged him off the rear.

yeah well the guy that caused the troubles was lapped atleast 3 times...since it is a training crit they don't pull anyone...so your method doesn't work in this scenario...especially since it was a 0.5 mile course...
