I just pulled a Panasonic bike out of the trash today. I wanted to know if anybody knows about these bikes and if it is a good FG candidate?

hope that helps some. they seem to have made good frames, but i wouldnt know whats good or not good for fixies. :)

what are the dropouts on your panasonic like? most of the panasonics i've seen are fairly old, with semi-horizontal drop-outs, suitable for fg. if you like the frame, and the drop-outs are right, it'll make a fine fixie.

It has the usual semi-horizontal drop-outs. It is in bad condition so I wanted more info before I strip and start to rebuild the bike. I just can't bring myself to leave a good bike in the trash when I know it just needs a little work.

I was working on the bike this past weekend. It has a freewheel BB. That is the weirdest thing. Must be some strange 80's things.

Not sure if I quite understand what do you mean freewheel bottom bracket? It can only turn one direction?

It is the strangest things. I was cleaning and working on the bike and it had a strange sticker explaining this new technology of the free wheel BB. It turns both ways. I was confused to say the least. The rear tire is fixed with 5 rings for gearing.
The strangest set up I have come across. B/c of the free wheel bottom bracket the thing is entirely useless to me since I want to make it a fixie. I need a entirely new BB and crank set.

Basically, instead of the rear wheel free wheeling, the BB does. Very strange.

Freewheel BB's were availble very briefly in the early 80's. The only advantage they had was that you could shift while coasting. Other than that it was a bad idea, and one usually poorly done, too.
