BMX - New BMX'er, hopefully you can help me out :)

Hey guys,

So basically as the title says I'm all new to BMX'ing. I've been doing biking ever since I can remember, so you can say I've learned some things along the way. And now I'm ready to learn some more.

Anyways I'm in the market for a mid class BMX. I know I know these threads are everywhere, but me, I can't just research around and find something good. Sure I can see what I like, but I really enjoy opinions.

Here's the deal. My price is guna be somewhere around $500 max! (canadian dollars, so like 470 us).
I want to be able to use this bike practically everywhere, dirt, ramps, street, etc. If possible!
Next...well of course I've been told as much chromoley as possible...3-piece crank...etc. Oh and of course i want all 4 pegs but i think every bike comes with 4.

Anyways about me, over 6' and I weigh about 150. I've been in a few bike stores, and I remember trying out this Trek BMX, and it felt realllly small. Reg price was lie 579 or something...Anyways all I know is that the guy told me that it was one of the ramp/street sized bikes so it was more compact, and that the dirt bikes are made bigger.

Anyways I know im blabbing on, so if ya guys don't mind, help a guy out? I know for sure I like Haro definitely, but if there are any otehr brands that are worthv naming go ahead. OHHHHH and before I forget, if possible, I need it to be available on a online store that ships to canada, or if somebody knows of a shop that has it in either toronto, ottawa or quebec.

Much Appreciated! Thanks

Wes

Hmm, although I do really like that bike, and the fact that it has a bunch of good stuff...I'm thinking..well in my head...that I'm kinda looking for one with dual breaks, and the gyro headset....unless someone persuades me otherwise..

You don't really need front brakes unless your doing flatland. And unless you can do barspins and tailwhips and stuff, there's nor reason to get a bike with gyro.

yea mini is right..front brakes are pretty pointless as most people will tell you to take your brakes off all together

I use my front brakes and my gyro a lot. I don't really do a whole lot of tricks that are flatland specific, nor street or park or dirt specific. Just stuff like barspins, footjam tailwhips, bunny hops, etc. I'm working on my fork glide right now.

Ok well lets just say for now, that I did want both brakes, and the gyro, what would you reccommend to me then?

There really is no need for gyro whatsoever unless you are throwing triple tailwhip barspins. Gyro's are harder to come about these days anyway so you are just narrowing your search.

Ooh, one question first though, is Danscomp in CAN or US Dollars :P I'd assume US, but yea.

well, it's in canadian dollars. dan rhymes with can, and can is the abreviation of canada. so logic says that dans comp,is in canadian dollars
It's in US money.

Ok Ok enough :P.

So I've been searching around, and I cam upon the Easter Metalhead and Sequence bikes. Look pretty stylin to me, and have everything I want.

Opinions? And if anyone knows of a store that has them that ships to Canada? :P

Thanks

Wes

Eastern = No No

Great to know you're trying to help, but just telling me no isn't going to cut it. I want explanations. :P And even if possible, show me a bike that's identical to it, because really, I don't see what's wrong with it, it has everything I want, the price is decent...I don't get it.

The parts look decent on it at first. I was marvelling at the Element which was £299 (no idea how much in US but cheap over here) and came with and intergrated headset, spanish bb, cassete hub and 25-9 gearing. In two months, the rear hub had blown, the dropouts had bent, the front wheel stopped spinning, the headset cracked, the bars snapped and the tires just dissapeared. For the record this guy is not at all harsh to his bike, he is sketchy and I will admit but nothing that would contribute to the bike falling to pieces. And before you ask, this isn't just a one off, I have another friend (who I don't see as much) Eastern Jane. The dropouts bent, the rear hub blew and the axel snapped on it, and the headset cracked. This guy wasn't even sketchy and it just fell apart. I have a very low opinion on Eastern and they still continue to make parts even lighter. It's just dangerous.

I'd go for the Kink Roc

Yeah the Kink Roc looks dope.

Hmm, seems the Eastern Sequence is a little hard to come upon (especially the '07 model).

Anyway my question is, I know I want dual brakes, and a gyro, so what, to you, would be the best bike(s) that has dual brakes, besides the Sequence of course http://www.bmx-forum.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif

Thanks

if brakes are your problem, buy some and put them on when you get a bike.
