I've been going on regular rides this summer (almost every day) and my entry level hardtail (Marin Bolinas Ridge for reference) is beating the crap out of me. It's got a Spinner Grind OS2 fork on it and I'd like to know if somebody can give me a rundown on how to set it up. Or as far as it can be set up, or at all.
I know the knob is supposed to control the "preload" but if I swing the knob both ways it seems like the fork is almost locked out from the neutral position I have basically left it at from when I purchased it. It's basically tuned to cruise around the floor of Sports Chalet which sucks, because the nearest location is 30miles from my house and that's a long way to go to ride someplace where my fork works well.
Upgrading is not an option. I have V-brakes. Saving up for a new ride and its not worth the $$$.
As far as high end forks go with all their adjustability, if anyone would care to explain what all the different aspects are that would be sweet, or point me in the direction of figuring that out. I know you can set air shocks to your weight and add and subtract pressure based on your riding style, but what about coil-spring shocks...what's the difference in terms of weight, riding and all that.
