Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - What would you do? (Im messed up)

I just built a wheel a couple days ago, a Surly Rear Track Hub laced to a Velocity Fusion with double-butted spokes, everything all black. It isnt as difficult as I thought it was going to be, but I had the first one I built trued by a shop, as I will the rear.

But here is my problem....In my efforts to get the 'Surly' logo on the hub to match the front in relation to the valve hole, i.e. looking through the hole and seeing the logo, I got the valve hole in the wrong spot, so its now 1 spoke hole over from where it supposed to be on a 3 cross pattern. I didnt catch it till I got all the spokes in and the nipples tightened.

What would you do in this situation, re-lace it or just leave it how it is? Im seriously considering re-lace it since Im sorta anal like that......

I left it because it really makes no difference and the pump still fits fine.
If anyone asks tell them you did it on purpose to be unique!

I made a similar mistake on a vintage hub the last guy had done wrong, and didn't notice until I was done. I redid it, no regrets, it would have bothered me and I was learning to build wheels so it was good practice. Make sure you have a couple of extra nipples.

re-lace it. Sorry dude.

re-lace. you'll get sick of whacking your hand into the spokes when removing the pump every time. i guarantee you'll do a better job the second time around anyhow, cuz you'll be super anal about it, having ****ed up the first time.

Relace it; it's good practice.

I've done that on a 2X and it presents no pump problems. But it's great practice to relace. Pick a night when you can sit down, relax, drink a beer, and have a perfect wheel.

And am I reading it's not even trued yet? You're not even really backtracking - relace.

Relace ... you'll do a better job next time, it won't bug you anymore and building wheels is (normally) fun.

There is no half-way with aesthetics like this. Having it almost lined up is the worst thing you can do. Sorry. Re-lace.

but would you use JB weld to fill the original valve stem hole?

If you have to ask what to do -- do as we say.
Looks like we're of two minds; three if you scratch and weld.
If you're kind of anal like that...redo and you can love yourself, your work, your wheel.
Or, just leave it.

DOesn't the fusion have offset spoke holes? If you are off by one hole, then you'd have them going to the wrong side as well. if that's the case you have to redo it.

If that's not the case, and the spokes are on the correct sides, then it's mainly an aesthetic issue, but I would still redo it. What's the point of building your own wheels if you're not going to do them perfect? Get it right. you can use the practice anyway right?

The Fusion does have offset spoke holes, so its actually flipped around, I thought that I could just take one out and move them over one at a time but that wont work. Ill prolly re-lace it this weekend. The first wheel that I did last week came out perfect, so go figure.

But it is fun, can't wait to do some more!

in fact, i totally forgot about lining up the hub logo. now i'm considering tearing apart the (otherwise perfect) wheelset I just finished just to fix *that*.

well, the front is not quite lined up the way that I wanted it, but right now the rear matches the front in terms of where the logo is, but I was not really concerned about that part......

Leaving it alone means it's serviceable. Fixing it will make it awesome.
