Bicycle Mechanics - Do any rapid fire shifters work with shimano 105 12-25 10 spd?

I am looking at buying a second hand Trek pilot 2.1.

It comes with Drivetrain
SHIFTERS Shimano 105 STI, 10 speed
FRONT DERAILLEUR Shimano 105
REAR DERAILLEUR Shimano Ultegra
CRANKSET Shimano 105 50/39/30
CASSETTE Shimano 105 12-25, 10 speed
PEDALS Shimano 505, clipless

Some advice please - I want to put a flat bar on it for a bit. Am wondering are there rapid fire type shifters that I can put on the bars that will work well? Any warnings or things to steer clear of?

Hmmm bit more expensive than hoped maybe I don't want them that much.

I sure don't want 'em so much I would ever ever leave a bike in the hands of the wretched mechanics at St Kilda Cycles again.

It might seem strange, but due to history of back malfunctions, I can't see myself getting down to those drop bars. I have had the headstem on my hybrid up quite high for a long time now. Prior to that adjustment, I was off the bike for ages (well, months seemed like ages). Some of the flat bar road bikes like Giant CRX have looked appealing, but can't see myself on an aluminium frame either.

So I figure if I can get a second hand bike like the 2.1 and set it up similar to the old hybrid, why not? Will work out cheaper than a CRX-zero anyway. Over time I see myself trying some different bar set ups, and the 2.1 wil give me more room to graduate upwards than, say, the trek flat bar commuting bikes.

I am in no hurry to get my upper body parallel to the road. The goal is to keep building ability to ride further, so getting a flat bar on seems to be a good way to test the water, but any other ideas would be very welcome.

Even if you can't use the drops, the road bar offers hand positions that the flat bar doesn't. I count four major hand positions on top of a drop bar; a flat bar essentially has one. As a result, I find a flat bar very fatiguing to ride for any distance.

Maybe you could try one first without having to go to all the expense and effort?

NOt exactly what your looking for, but perhaps a moustache bar, and keep your 105 shifters?

Raise the bars with a an adjustable stem or riser stem, but keep the road bars.

I was recommending them (St.Kilda Cycles) as a place to get them(Shifters) - as they're the only ones that I know that carry parts for commuter bikes.

what about a flip and chop? I don't know if you could still use brifters with that set up, but i find them nice and comfy, and lots of hand positions.

I know where to buy bar ends and Thumbies, but not the SL-R770 shifters. Cost is irrelevant if you can't buy an option at all.

This is probably the option I will go for before spending money on new shimano shifters - bullhorns will give at least a couple of riding positions and I can use the supplied brifters. Guy at LBS rides this set up too and is keen to help me out.

Not dissing the AL! - just trying to get into a comfortable bike - ths one has composite stays so thinking that might help me out.
