Any chance we can get *.xls attachments to be uploadable? A lot of us in Road Bike Racing use charts/graphs, and some people have requested said charts from me.

For charts and graphs:
Graphs, i just paste into an image, host it and paste the embed code from Photobucket in this case...
This is the result.

Data tables, I paste in using the code function, see the # in the toolbar. Organize them as a bullet or numbered list. You get a scrollable compressed list.

Most hosts don't allow uploading of .xls files because it's very easy to embed a virus as a macro in an Excel file.
One way around it is to change the file extension of the .xls file to something that is allowed to be uploaded, like .gif, .jpg, or .png. Then inform people that they have to save the file to their computer and change the extension back to .xls prior to opening it.
Another solution is to use Google Docs & Spreadsheets (http://docs.google.com/). You can create your chart in Excel and save it, then open it in Google Spreadsheets, enable sharing, and invite others to view it. I'm not fully familiar with it, so I don't know if all viewers have to have a gmail account or not.

...as opposed to a .doc file, which is allowed?

For charts and graphs:
That's what I normally do. In this case, I was asked to provide the 'software' behind the graphs I was doing to the forum. I had to re-name the file to put it up. Not a huge deal, but I don't understand why .xls is not allowed.

That's your reason, ElJamoquio. Sad but true.
