Is it possible to remove/replace individual sprockets in the rear cluster? I have a pretty old suntour threaded on 5 speed cluster, and would like to dismantle it and service each sprocket. Is it possible to remove all sprockets but one, and use this method to do a single speed conversion? I assume chainline would be an issue unless I used just the right sprocket.

This is for a really old beater bike, and i don't have any plans for it. I'm using it to learn more advanced repairs as much as I am using it to get around.

You need two chainwhips. The top one or two cogs are threaded on (standard right-hand threads) so you need to hold one of the larger cogs with one chainwhip and unscrew the smallest cog(s) with the other. Once the threaded cog(s) are off the remaining ones slip off.

It might be nearly impossible because they are so tightly wound in there.
