Introductions - New to Road Biking

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hello everyone, I'm from El Paso, Texas and I've really been wanting to get into the whole road cycling scene. I've ridden and love mountain biking but just thought I'd to try my hand at something different. I have a bit of a dilema though I'm not really sure what type of bike to get. I've seen several models and ridden a few but what I really liked was the Trek 1000 and the Jamis Ventura Sport, both have Womens Specific Designs and they're both entry level models. Does anyone have any suggestions on what the difference is between the two and what might be a more beginner friendly road bike?

Hello Natalie, I'm probably wrong, but I think the Jamis is slightly more oriented to longer rides than the Trek 1000 (i.e., more like a touring bike). You may be more comfortable on the Jamis.
Just my opinion, though. I've tried riding the Trek 1000 WSD, and did not find it comfortable.
Welcome to BF!

Thanks!! I was kinda leaning toward the Jamis just because it fit my budget better.

I don't think you'd go wrong with either, but it sounds as if the Jamis would be the better fit for what you want to do with the bike :) .

Just got my wife her first Road Bike. It's a Trek Pilot 1.2 WSD. We took it out on the maiden voyage last evening and she absolutely loved it.

I also just started road biking from mtn biking. The best advice I got from a friend was to try them all! I did and I was amazed at how different every bike felt. Lemond's fit me the best, so that's what I got.
