Mountain Biking - Dealing with chipped/peeling paint

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I recently bought a used bike and am looking to fix a couple things that are wrong with it.

One thing is that in some places -- especially the chainstay and on the underside of where the bottom bracket goes [from the chain slipping off the smallest front gear, I think] -- the paint is worn down to the aluminum frame.

I want to at least prevent the paint from peeling further, dirt getting in, or huge gashes being made to the frame, since it's a pretty nice frame I think.

Any recommendations? I was thinking about these:

http://www.jensonusa.com/store/product/CH309Z09-Lizard+Skins+Chainstay+Protector+Clear+S.aspx

How are they? Jenson's is a good place to order from, right? (Can't find them at the local shop.)

Anything else I should consider - product or alternative or whether I should even bother?

Thanks in advance.

you could always sand it down and use nail polish

Sand it down where needed, mask it off and throw down a couple of coats of auto paint that matches, then sray some clear coat over that. Hell, use something intentionally mismatched and tell people it's custom and all the cool kids are doing it.

Don't bother painting. Have the frame stripped and powdercoated. You'll be glad you did. That's the best fix for crappy factory paint finishes. Its more durable.
