Hi folks! First post, yipee! I'm coming up on the end of my second week of bike commuting, and I'm really loving it. Problem is the last couple of days I'm having trouble with gear shifting. The front gears give me a lot of trouble shifting down to first, and the back ones just get real sketchy seeming to skip a lot and lose their footing. I'm riding a trek 7100. I'm getting it checked out at the bike shop this weekend, but I'd like to avoid these kinds of problems in the future. Am I doing something wrong? Any advice on how to be gentler on my gears? Thanks.
If it's a brand new bike your cables will stretch a bit for the first couple of weeks and your shifting will become sluggish. All other things being equal, this can be fixed by a single tuneup and should not cause any more trouble. This is part of the reason most shops offer a free tune up within 30 days of purchase.

I was hoping it was something like that. Thanks a bunch.
