Saturday, August 07, 2004 (MST) Tour de Gap Stage Race
Location: Parowan UT, Brian Head UT

Tour de Gap is developing into Iron County's premier bicycle race which features a key stage that travels through the Parowan Gap widely considered as one of the most scenic and historically significant locations in the entire United States.

STAGE 1 - MAMMOTH CREEK LOOP - SATURDAY MORNING

The Mammoth Creek Loop will start at the Cedar Breaks Lodge Hotel. Turn right on Hwy 143 traveling through Brian Head town. Hwy 143 climbs out of town for about 2 mi at pitchers nearing 13%. The course then makes a left at the Panguitch Lake turn, continuing on Hwy 143. Approximately 8 mi. after the turn make a sharp right on to Mammoth Creek Road. This is a 15 mi. stretch through the countryside with some fast twisty down hills, steep up hills and very little traffic. The course reaches Hwy 14 where it makes a right hand turn. There the road is fairly flat for the first few miles then it starts to climb steadily toward Cedar Breaks Monument. Make a right onto Hwy 148, which is where the climbing really starts. You’ll climb 2500 ft. in 8mi. all at about 10,000 ft. elevation. Hwy 148 merges back into Hwy 143 where the road winds it’s way back down into Brian Head town for the finish.
