Mountain Biking - 8 days with friends in WV - Part 3

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

(Continued from Part 2)

The next day it was off on an adventure that never should have happened. After
it was over we vowed never to plan a ride while partaking of any alcoholic beverages.
It was officially dubbed as the "Stupidest Ride Ever". At least 10 miles of blacktop
road, approx. 22 miles of old dirt road, to see a pretty neat overlook, a fire tower
and about 3 1/2 miles of great singletrack. These are the only pictures I could
force myself to take.

We had another great night at camp, with good food, good friends, and good beer.
A keg of Seneca IPA from Mountain State Brewery.

The next day a couple of our friends had to pack up and head home. So those of
us left decided to do another decent ride. We left from our campsite on Camp70
Road, picked up the singletrack that would take us back to Davis, crossed the
bridge on Rt.32 at Davis and hooked a right onto a dirt road. The dirt road soon
turns into a narrow old two track with a nasty creek crossing before reaching
Blackwater Falls State Park. We then rode past the campground at the park and
picked up Dobbin House Trail. We took the spur off it to an overlook. After riding
at least a mile past the overlook we backtracked and took some pictures there.
Afterwards, we hit the trail again and had a blast finishing out Dobbin House Trail
and then returned to camp via the same off road route. What a blast.

Shortly after we arived back at camp we were joined by Jason's other half and
their lovely daughter. What a treat to have them in camp. Later that evening
another friend, Kathy arrived to camp and ride on Saturday.

On Saturday the group split a bit. My Son rode as tour guide for Kathy who is
fairly new to mountain biking so he led her around some of the more mild trails
while the rest of us rode the new trail up to HooDoo rocks and rode a totally
new line off of Moonrocks. What a workout ! Here was our first rest over on
Mount Stripe Mine.

Here is Kathy and my Son relaxing after the days ride while Jason's little one
questions the crew.

That evening we all piled in a couple vehicles and drove into Davis and converged
on Sirianni's where we had great pizza, parmesan wedges and beer while the
kids enjoyed Root Beer ! It put a good ending on our week.

By 10 am Sunday morning we all said our goodby's and reluctantly headed toward
our homes with hopes of meeting again before the summers end. Hope everyone
else is having a wonderful mountain biking year so far. ;)

You'll have to do that. WV is a mountain biking mecca. I'd be glad to point you in the right
direction when you come up. Whatever your riding preference, it's here.
