5 mile ride uphill in a strong headwind today at 95 degrees. I started screaming at the wind to stop. I started, then did it again numerous times. Then, when I have to head across the wind for all of 30' I get stuck at a light. I trackstand and the wind comes along and blows me over before I can get my foot out of the clips. Hot chick on corner laughs and asks if I'm ok. Then, upon reaching my destination I lean my bike against a bike rack and go into my bag to get my lock and the wind blows my bike over and lodges it between the two bike racks making a gnarley gash in the paint just near the stem. This is the 4th or 5th time I've had to take that same ride in a headwind and it puts me in the foulest mood everytime. Last time I was on my way to a first date with this chick and I just complained to her for 15 minutes about how much I hate the wind. This city is the windiest place I've ever been. I hate it. Rant over.

I'm with you on that one.....I'd take rain or snow over wind any day...it also doesn't help when its 108 degrees outside and it's just hot air blowing around.

Wind sucks. Drafting, however, is amazing.

I was too embarassed. And she was only half hot, but I wanted to make it sound worse than it was. It was a really ****ty ride. I also found that when my bike fell while I was locking it up I got a ****ing dent in my frame. **** that wind.

omg wind HATES you. I've yelled at it a couple of times in my life too. riding up a treeless 10% grade with a 20 knot headwind sucks.

5 mile ride uphill in ABQ? Were you riding up Sandia?

Whatever happened to the excuse of 'it's a dry heat...' that I hear from people from the SW??? ;)

Hot wind is bad.

OP - How's ABQ? That city interests me enough to look into moving there someday. What kind of town is ABQ?

I hate when you get knocked down to 10mph and you just know that no one in their car has any idea how ****ing windy it is.

glad im not the only one.

edit: i feel like cars hear me cursing the wind. I hate when busses fly by when it's windy, and just completely pushes me to a stop.

maybe you should've asked the wind nicely to stop blowing.

I still miss the humidity and heat of home (Chicago). Matter of fact I miss everything about home. ABQ isn't too bad, I guess. I have to look alot harder for things to do, and I miss out on most concerts/films that I would get to see back home. It's not too cold during the winter though. If it weren't for the job I wouldn't be here but, unlike prison or a concentration camp, I can occasionally find something that makes it tolerable here.

Same here..I've been in Tucson for 8 months and I'm already planning on moving back east (Philly) in a couple of months.

HMM...maybe you should rethink how much you care about money if thats your justification for staying?

Now we see why there are so many more downhill skiers then Cross Country hill climbers. You can make wind work for you. When I want a wind workout I take a county transit bus 25 to 30 miles upwind. All the buses take three on the front rack and at least two in the wheelchair lockdowns inside. Given no wheelchairs. Then I get my wind training, 30 miles down-wind:D . Do not rage against the storm, use it.

I feel what you are saying, but I was trying to say that it's worth it for me to be here right now. And not just for the money, I don't make much of that whatsoever. I have a paid internship right now, and I'm super excited about the experience I'm getting. I was trying to say that it's harder for me to be happy here, because there is less to distract me from myself, or whatever it is I need excitement for. I have to be more... serene... out here rather than the hectic, yet exciting life I had back home. Ya dig?

Headwind makes you stronger, and tailwind is fun.

I just suffer in silence. Then I complain about it to whoever will listen afterwards. :)
