OT: TV Shock This Morning
I looked at the moving text at the bottom of the TV screen this morning and saw the following:
"DENVER FOX BEING TESTED FOR RABIES"
It took me back a bit.
Then I learned that a fox in Denver that had bitten a baby was being tested for rabies.
Reminds me of the old days when we used to get phone calls asking what movie was on tonight at the Denver Fox. (For you younger folks, there used to be a chain of Fox movie theaters)

One time, many years ago, I got a call from someone with the same name as me. He was trying to reach someone else who had the same name.

Getting tested for rabies involves certain ummm... sacrifices on the part of the testee. Nice knowing you Denver.
So...........what were the results of the rabies test? Get a call from your doc, yet? Hope you don't have to be put down.

Do you have a heightened level of anxiety around water bottles?

For those of you never involved in rabies case this may seem minor. My daughter was a helper at the Peters Township, PA community day with the pony ride for kids(Girl Scout service project). The horse she was managing had rabies. I will make a very long and painful story short. The PA State Police tracked us down through a neighbor on the ninth day of the exposure( we were at a soccer torurnament in NJ and then a HS reunion in PA). My daughter did get the shots. It cost me $1500 out of pocket. The township washed their hands of the whole thing. I have a diligent vet to thank for my daughter being alive along with possibly many others. The horse owners burned the barn down along with the infected animals. The vet smelled a rat and actually cut off the head of the infected horse and at his expense had the county health dept test for rabies. Could take up a couple of pages on this story but this is serious stuff.
Your 15 minutes of fame!
Oilman: Glad things turned out good for your daughter.... that story sent chills up my spine.

My neice married an fellow from India and went on their "honeymoon" to Northern India to meet his folks.
They bought a scooter to ride on. A wild dog jumped out, caused the young man to lose control, they crashed, he broke his arm and was bitten by the dog. She scared the dog away.
He had to undergo a series of rabie shots, get his arm set, and he couldn't drive the scooter anymore.
This is just one of the many bizarre stories they had to tell about their 4 months in India. Needless to say they were glad to be back in the states.
Rabies is serious stuff indeed.

Rabies is serious stuff indeed.
Speaking as a public health official, the disease is extremely serious indeed. But let's remember that we are talking about a pun on a forum member's user name, and take it in the humorous way it was intended! :)
