Yesterday my mom wanted to go for a ride so we set out on a leisurely 8 mile ride on the local bike trail. About half way into the ride we passed a lady on a bike and her physically handicapped son in an electric wheel chair heading the other direction. I said hi and asked how they where doing. She said good, except the fact that the electric wheel chair was almost dead and she was concerned that they might not make it back to the trail head. Sure enough on our way back there they where about 2 miles from the trail head dead. She was trying to push her bike and the chair up hill. I jumped off and took over pushing duty's. She said that this was a new chair and their old one make the trek no problem. I ended up pushing the chair up hill for 2 miles to their van. What a work out! Those things are heavy and not designed to push. There are no handle and this one has caster wheel out the back and made it really hard to walk behind it so I had to lean over and push it the whole way. This ended up being FAR more of a work out than my bike ride would have been. I was also amazed at how many other rider didn't stop or even show concern. You'd think that seeing two lady pushing three bike and me pushing a dead wheel chair would bring out the moral concern in people. Nope apparently we where the only ones with a conscious on the trail that day. So the moral of the story is, don't be afraid to give up your work out to help others.
