The only shop I go to is Santiago Cycling (http://www.cyclingpros.com/index.htm) in Tustin. The website is nothing special. It's a small mom and pop shop that doesn't have the glitz and glamor of many corporate stores, but if your serious about cycling they will serve you well. Prices? Better than some. Selection? Smaller then some. Experience? The best! Robert is the owner of the shop and is an expert wheel builder. He will also fit you like a pro. He doesn't use any fancy bikefit.com contraptions or does he buy into and gimmicks like RAD or ALINE(google it!). He is just a pure old school coach who knows how to fit you to the bike.

All of the shops I feature on my site sell road bikes. And after talking with store managers at just about every bike shop around, I ONLY recommend these shops.

http://www.3fbc.com/search

The list includes:
Jax (all locations - great, prompt service)
Two Wheels One Planet (Lake Forest, Costa Mesa - family-like atmosphere)
Ladera Cyclery (Very good mechanics)
Rock N Road (various locations - Specialized bikes)
Sand Canyon Cyclery (good selection but slow service)

Edge Cycle Sports in Laguna Hills sells Independent Fabrications bikes. I've never been to the store and don't know anything about it. But, places that carry IF's are usually high end.

Basically i am just looking for a solid shop as far as knowledge/workmanship towards roadbikes with carbon frames/forks etc... One that can help me determine the stem length/height I need for a new build and also cut the steerer and finish it all up...

Reason I am looking for a good shop is I delt with two "high end" shops in OC, one mountain and one road, and both did a lousy job on some things I had done there... They shall remain nameless....

Thanks for the suggestions...

I definitely second The Edge for a high end bike. Very knowledgable in that shop as well as Laguna Cyclery - which is actually a better shop for high end bikes (Patrick is the owner - he also races and really knows bikes) but unfortunately is in a sucky location with little parking (in Laguna Beach off PCH).

I recently sent a friend to The Edge and he purchased two custom Caffees - he loved the shop and he loves his bikes.

If you are willing to spend some money both shops will definitely care for you! They both cater to a high end clientele (which is why alhough I feel both shops are good - I don't go there - I perfer RockNRoad).

BTW one place I would NOT recommend - for various reasons - mostly for extremely slow and disorganized service:

Sand Canyon Cyclery

Owner's (Jim) very nice but doesn't know a rock from a hole in his head. He means way but does not deliver.

Yeah.... I have the frame in my car right now and Im looking for a place I can stop by and have them clean up the bottom bracket if they feel it needs it(its faced already from the factory, but has some minor coating on the surface still)

I also had a question about the headset bearing and also if they feel the headtube needs to be cleaned up a little....

I'd like to have the frame built up this weekend instead of sitting in a shop for something minor like that... Actually if I have the surfacing tools, I'd do it myself!

Have you tried King's in Seal Beach? It would do better if the owner was never there but Matt is a good honest wrench.

Neccos I didn't realize you were in HB - Kings would be excellent for you. They are on PCH in Seal Beach. They are a good shop and stand behind their service. I'll go there but too far away.

One thing Pam & I can agree on is Edge Cycle Sports. Both Hank and Sean are world class wrenches...and very cool people. There's only one other guy I let touch my bikes and that's Juan over at Cycle Care...that guy is magic.

I'm personally not a fan of Laguna Cyclery. Those guys talk a good game but I don't trust them. They've done some really goofy stuff (like taken parts off of my friends' bikes and installed them on others...I'm not making it up).

I've never been to King's but a lot of good people like Tiff and Voltman (well...he's OK I guess) seem to think it's a good shop.

+1 on Kings. They are just south of Main St. on the beach side of PCH. They are also a good place to get a proper fitting. Got fitted for my custom Serotta a few weeks back. Matt is VERY good as a mechanic and I've had time to see that he oversees the work of the other mechanics there.

Disclaimer: Kings is one of the sponsors of my club, Lightning Velo. (However, I am spending a sinful amount of money there on my Serotta frame. )

Surf City Cyclery. I've never been to King's. And I'd probably describe myself as adequate.
