Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Hubs on San Jose

I am looking to get a commuter (buy or build) and I am considering the San Jose. Right now, I am looking at the San Jose, Rob Roy, and 925. I am check out the component specs on them, and I was trying to find out what hubs are on the San Jose. Are they forumula?

My main reservation about the San Jose is the cheap wheels (vs IRO) and the loud graphics. If I do the 925, I would get the frame and build from there.

things have bianchi stamped on 'em. i don't know who made them originally, but they're surely cheep. flip/flops, spaced 130mm. 28h. san joses sell well, and i think they're basically good bikes, but i suspect there'll be issues down the line, when you gotta choose from the comparatively limited number of 130mm spaced fixed hubs, and then you gotta figure out what size BB to put those XDs on, in case chainline is messed up. truth be told, if i was gonna get one, and ride it with a freewheel anyway, i'd be tempted to put a nicish set of road wheels on there if'n the stock alexes died, and just run one cog with some spacers. it'd make chainline breezy, and you got a bunch more affordable options. sure, the wheels'd be arguably weaker, but still stronger than the stock set-up.

Thanks for the reply. The limited selection of 130mm hubs was another point of contention for the San Jose. The 925 has 120, which opens up about 1000 more doors, even though the 120s could be spaced to 130.

I guess I would focus on wheelbuilding with 120mm formulas.

They are the same hubs as the pista has stock, obviously to save some money. They just added spacers to each side to get it to 130. In all honesty, not sure why they didnt just leave it at 120 as there is no hanger to add a derailleur. alas, i just moved the spacers over to my miche hubs and all is well there. no problems at all.

Very interesting. Based on what I had read, I thought that they were basically MTB SS hubs to add durability. Thanks for the info.

mtb hubs are 135mm
130 is currently the road bike standard.
120 for track
110 for bmx

Definitely considering it. I still havent totally made my mind up about how slack of a geometry I want to go with. The powdercoat of the RR is definitely a plus.
