I found this short video (http://www.makezine.com/blog/archive/2007/06/build_a_single_speed_bike.html?CMP=OTC-0D6B48984890) while trying to find information on acheiving the correct chain tension (which it talked almost nothing about).

I googled "proper chain tension single speed" and it was listed on the second page of links. I thought it was pretty well done. If anything it goes to show that you can recycle an old bike and make something practical and fun.
