Commuting - Looking for a new helmet non raised back.

I would like to get a new helmet that is a non-raised back model if possible. I'm using a Bell Image (old!) helmet and it's the right size in design that looks good and works with my bags for carrying. I on impulse got a raised back helmet from Wallys but kept it more as a backup helmet for other people to ride with. It just looks bigger and bulkier. I would like a helmet just like the Bell Image shape again if companies make it. More vents would be the only improvementI want.

Giro makes one. It's called the Makai. Looks kind of like a skate helmet. There's also the Giro Flak, which IS a skate helmet. The Giro Hex MTB helmet looks kind of round, too. There are tons of helmets and pics on Performance and Nashbar's pages.

Just checked out the Makai. It's a ladies helmet. While the BMX/Skaters helmet is nice just looking at it, it does not appeal to me as there isn't much ventilaion in there. Also bike most normal bike backpacks will take a oval or raised back helmet only unless it's build to take full face helmets for DH'ers.

Yeah, if you don't want a skate-type helmet, you've pretty much got just the Metro or Citi to choose from. I have the Metro and I like it. I've started seeing the Citi all over the place, so people are buying it.

I also have a Metro and like it. Plus you can get the Metro and Citi in hi-viz colors. Sure I look like a traffic cone, but at least I'm visible.

I had one of the original white Bell helmets. I replaced it finally with a silver Bell Metro.

I use a Bell Impulse. It fits my head great.

I wonder why companies don't make more low profile helmets like the impulse and such. I am looking formore variety and thiness (smaller profile then looking like I have a honking turtle on the head >_<;;). The Impulse looks ok and I've added that to my consideration list.

Look again, It comes in a variety of colors and designs. Some appeal to girls/ladies, others are more masculine (black on black flame?). I have the light blue style for my daughter but getting it I really want one for myself. I was looking for a helmet like you describe because my daughter rides in her Burley trailer. This was the best I could find in adult sizes (her head is too big for youth sizes).
However you are correct in that it does not have much venting. It is also heavier than many other helmets as the outer shell is a hard plastic instead of a thin flexible shell. The Metro and Citi are similar only a little more vented and lighter. Still not near as light or vented as my road helmet.
Why the requirement that the helmet is round?

Just buy the Metro or Citi, dude. They are the most understated vented road helmet out there.
Plus there's attachements for visors and stuff which comes in handy.
You're not going to find a helmet that is really any thinner. They need to protect your head. Otherwise just wear a cycling cap or a beanie.
