Road Bike Racing - "Honey, I want a road bike" <== after 16 years!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I couldn't believe it when I heard it, but I tried to contain myself. "Ok, cool. We should head down to BSS and see what fits and feels good."

She got over to BSS, and came home excited. Tonight we're looking at a used 51-cm 2006 Specilized Dolce Elite with only 25 miles on it (3 rides). I'm giddy for her. Funny thing is, her bike will be like 2 lbs lighter than mine

Until this point, she's been on a 1993 Rockhopper with slicks (but didn't ride much until recently). She did really well in her first triathlon and is inspired a bit. All her friends just got road bikes too. :)

Congrats. I recently converted what had been my wife's road bike back into my beater bike. I am hoping that she gets the bug again in a few years.

On the Specialized -- I have a friend in the DC area who just did her first tri on a Dolce (not the elite) and is thrilled with the bike.

Done. Craigslist $750 for a Specialized Dolce Elite 105/Ultegra with just a couple rides on it. Still had the injection mold seam down the middle of both tires! Came with saddle bag, CO2, cages, bottles, computer, spd pedals, shoes, some jerseys, and shorts. Everything brand new, some with tags still on it.

nice job! Sounds like you got a great deal. Your wife runs doesn't she? I recall you saying something a while back about doing pancakes in the morning for the kiddos while she does her long runs. If she's pretty fit from that she is going to do great on the new bike. The Dolce will be a nice bike for the tri's - much more efficient position compared to what she was using before. Now just get her some clip-on aerobars. :)

Specialized has done a nice job with their women's bikes. I know a lot of people that either have smething in the Dolce or Ruby line and they love them. When my sister wanted to get into riding, I got her a Dolce.

Yep she runs mostly, but she's working on bike and swim lately too. She's actually out on the Dolce now, tearing up the Veloway (trying to get confident in the pedals). She fell over last night for the first time, right after we bought the bike. Sucks to be learning that stuff again. Our 5-year-old said "Mommy, let Daddy teach you to track stand!"

We won't get to ride together too frequently since our kids are so young (one of us stays behind). We'll take them all out on the trailer bike and trailer for slow rides though :) Of course, there's about zero chance that a trailer is getting clamped on that Dolce at this point -- it'll be me out there on my MTB/City bike :)
