I have always been very interested in racing road bikes. I have been riding my dads bike for some time now and I though it would be a good time to get my own. I am thinking about getting the 2008 Windsor Dover. I don't have a great income right now because I am only 19 and attending school. I picked this bike because it seems to be a decent bike for its price. Is this a good bike for beginner racer (cat5)? If not what are some things that should be improved on this bike (i.e. cranks, wheels, fork, ect.) Thank you.

Looks like this is the bike you are looking at, huh? IMHO, I wouldn't get this one and I definately wouldn't spend money on upgrading it. The components are no name, literally. If I were you, I would go down to the local bike shop and get fitted for, let's say a Trek 1000. The last thing you want to do is buy a bike that doesn't fit you, it isn't just stand over height you need to be concerned about.

Also, don't worry about upgrading things yet. Money is better spent on entery fees when starting out.

if you are attending school, find out if your school has a bike team and join them. they'll teach you everything you need to know, and there's a chance they may get deals you can get in on. your school bike team is definitely going to be a better resource than these forums.
